What it takes to control your emotions
https://djaoi.blog.jp/archives/88047153.html?t=1
We need meta-cognition in order to control our emotions.
Metacognition simply put, is objectivity.
It's allowing the "other self" to evaluate and correct your own emotions and feelings, words and actions,
and controlling your own self.
For example, when you revisit a love letter you wrote late at night,
it feels so lascivious that it makes you light-headed and white-eyed, doesn't it?
This is also a kind of metacognitive ability, and you feel "embarrassed" because you were able to look at yourself objectively.
Such meta-cognition cultivates a person's ability to have reason,
so we can say and do the right thing as a human being.
When people who cannot observe themselves gather together,
they create a community of mutual surveillance.
Instead of controlling ourselves through metacognition
controlled by someone else's surveillance.
It's a hellish community where everyone is trapped under the watchful eye of others.
In order to control yourself, you have to control your emotions.
It's mainly our words and actions that are controlled by others.
Only the words and actions are controlled while the important feelings are left untouched.
As a result, emotions are not "controlled" but "suppressed."
This accumulates stress that has no place to go.
Someone cut in line in front of you, you got pissed off,
you didn't want to lose your temper, but you couldn't stop being angry.
That's because you live in a world of mutual surveillance
That it is not your own eyes that have stopped you,
but the eyes of someone different
Without metacognition to convince yourself of your own emotions
you will continue to suffer that agony every step of the way.
The easiest way to cultivate metacognition is to 'write'.
Write down your thoughts and feelings in writing, and then read them back to yourself!
This will become an "objective view" and will serve as a medium to control your emotions.
You'll see what I mean when I actually write it down.
”Anger" is an emotion that is 80% made up of "unimportant things", isn't it?
Subjectively, the feeling of "I can't forgive him/her" boils over like a parent's vengeance,
and yet when you look at it objectively, it's often easier to think "whatever, it's stupid"
