A Conversation with Kenta Nagakura!
① 3 Key Themes
This conversation is built around three major themes.
Goal Setting (small desires→ a greater calling)
How Cognition Works(RAS・Comfort zone
Principles of Action (fear/movement/environment)
② The Evolution of Goals (Desire→ Calling)
Step 1:People always start with "small desires"
Example: I want to win a gold medal
A self-centered goal
Step 2:Keep asking "and then what"
Win the gold medal — then what?
Become a coach — then what?
And after that?--then what?
Step 3:Purpose expands
Personal success → contributing to others
Sharing the joy of swimming
Spreading health and happiness
Step 4:It transforms into a "calling"
Small desire → a greater desire (a calling)
👉 Conclusion
Continuing to ask deeply takes you "outside the status quo"
A true calling draws others to your side
③ The Essence of Goal Setting
Step 1:Goals within your current reality carry little meaning
Example: Employee → Company President
→ It's jst an extension of where you already are
Step 2:Misaligned goals are what matter
Example: Nissan employee → Toyota president
→ Seemingly impossible
Step 3:Misalignment sparks inspiration
An incomprehensible sense of incongruity
The brain searches for new pathways
👉 Conclusion
"Goals you can understand" are extensions of the past
Goals you can't understand" create the future
④ How Cognition Works(RAS)
Step 1:People only see what they consider important
We only perceive what has been important to us in the past
Step 2: The same reality is interpreted differently
The same words from a boss can:
Leave one person wounded
Leave another person elated
Step 3:RAS creates your reality
The car you want → suddenly appears everywhere
Awareness → Perception → Reality
Step 4:You can use it in reverse
From what you notice, you can reverse-engineer your own values
👉 Conclusion
"Reality = the result of your cognitive filter"
⑤ The Principles Behind Changing Your Life
⑤-1:Live by a future standard
Problem
Left alone, life becomes an extension of the past
Solution
Make choices aimed toward the future
⑤-2:Do what you don't understand
Actions with reasons = past values
Actions without reasons = a doorway to the future
👉 Conclusion
"Challenges that make no sense" are what change your life
Do something new. Feeling anxious?! Then that's all the more reason to do it! When there's no anxiety — your status quo maintenance system is running the show.
⑥ The Power of Movement and Environment
Step 1:People are bound by their environment
Your hometown → the old hierarchy
A fixed self-image
Step 2:Moving updates who you are
New people
New places
New relationships
Step 3:Moving becomes a success experience
Buy the ticket → you always arrive
The feeling of "once I decide, I can go" becomes part of you
👉 Conclusion
Movement = the act of rewriting your reality
⑦ Information First, Reality Follows
Step 1:Rewrite your self-image
SNS
Environment
Putting yourself out there
Step 2:Reality aligns afterward現実が後から一致する
👉 Conclusion
Reality is the result — information is the cause
⑧ The True Nature of Fear and How to Use It
Step 1: The brain is a status quo maintenance device 1
Anything new = perceived as danger
Step 2: Anxiety is a normal response
It's the mechanism trying to make you stop
Step 3:Flip your decision making criteria
Feeling anxious → you should do it
Feeling no anxiety → you won't grow
👉Conclusion
Anxiety is "a sign pointing in the direction you should go"
⑨ The Real Purpose of goals
Misconception
Goals = something to achieve
The Truth
Goals = something to change your life with
Key Point
It's okay whether it comes true or not
The moment you step outside, the change begins
⑩ Final conclusion (integration)
The Equation for changing your life
Set your goal outside your current reality
- Rewrite your cognition (RAS)
- Take actions you don't understand
- Change your environment (movement · people)
- Let anxiety be your compass
⑪ The Core Statement
👉 "When you move in a direction you can't understand — that's when your life starts to move."

A new art museum in Shibuya

Museum of Imaginary Narrative Arts [MINA] is a new museum project built around the concept of "imaginary narrative."
Centered on four contemporary art exhibitions per year, the project brings together artists and creators to build "the museum itself" — through artwork sales and collections, learning programs and workshops led by exhibiting artists, a café and museum shop, and a quarterly magazine. Under the direction of contemporary art unit L PACK., the boundary between exhibition and dining is intentionally blurred, creating a space where art and people share the same moment in time. Through experiences that move freely between the everyday and the extraordinary, MINA proposes a new vision for what a museum can be. What does a museum mean to us? A rich and new everyday story of living alongside art — it begins here.
