doing penance was a thing.
Even in the era of Buddha, and now as well, there is a boom of it being good to suffer (especially in the Showa era)
But it's those who are freed from suffering and doing penance that become heroes.
So let go of the stiffness in your shoulders
and breathe in deeply,
and go into a pure white world
a crystal pure world
