In the Edo period, there is “Kashikoyama” in the book [3]. At that time, when the peasants were at low tide, they walked from Honshu to the island on foot (called “Kachi” in ancient languages), so what was called “Kachikoejima” [3].
It is believed that the people who began to live in Kashikojima were in the Jomon period due to the discovery of Ikiiwa sarcophagus (arrowheads) [2]. Ancient salt formations have also been found on the island [2].
However, until it became an uninhabited island and the Shima Electric Railway (now Kintetsu Shima Line) was opened in 1929 (Showa 4), there were only pine forests and paddy fields on the island [3]. Kashikojima Station, which mainly handles passengers, and Pearl Harbor Station, a freight-only station, were placed on the island [6]. It was developed along with the opening of the railway, but at that time there was only one inn and a few shops [7]. With the opening of the railway, Kashikojima has become a divergence base for pearl farming materials [7].
