You Won't Be Blessed With Truly Good Connections Unless You're Someone Who Gives Them.

How do you understand the word “en” (connection / relationship)?

What lies between the cause and the effect of karma — that is “en.”

The En Fes (Connection Festival)!!!

It was a big event hosted by Minamiyama-san!

1. The structure of “en” (connection), which determines the very essence of life

  • Every result has a “cause, a connection, and an effect”:
    • We tend to chase only the “effect” — the results, the outcomes we want. But in the process by which anything takes shape, there is always a “cause” that starts it and a “connection” that links it together.
  • The laws of physics and the mechanics of connection:
    • From modern physics (the butterfly effect and so on) to brain science to the teachings handed down through history, everything in this world is tied together by invisible threads.
    • Only by continuing to leave small changes and small realizations — footprints — do the dots finally become a line that leads you toward the future you want.

2. The “seeds” that stall your life, and the structure of consciousness

  • Your state of consciousness governs every result:
    • The process of life is automatically created in this order: ① state of consciousness (upstream) ➞ ② thought (mind) ➞ ③ emotion ➞ ④ choice and action ➞ ⑤ result.
    • In other words, more than changing your outer environment or your behavior, putting the “state of consciousness” at the furthest upstream in order is the premise for everything else.
  • The “seeds of suffering” that get in the way of your life:
    • In the soil of the human heart, seeds like anxiety, fear, anger, comparison, self-denial and worthlessness have been planted without our ever noticing.
    • These seeds keep emitting energy twenty-four hours a day, stealing your confidence, your possibilities and your good connections like a thief — and that is why life gets stuck.

3. The energy laws of “curses” and “charms”

  • Negative energy (curses):
    • Resenting others, envying them, or blaming yourself (cursing yourself) wastefully drains the energy you naturally hold, and makes your reality worse.
  • Positive energy (charms):
    • The original root of the word omajinai (charm) is “to place love and gratitude on your lips.”
    • Directing words of “gratitude” toward the small events of each day, toward the people around you, and toward yourself — and putting your heart in order — becomes a powerful technology for overturning your reality.

4. Concrete approaches for shifting your consciousness

  • “Breath control” to quiet the monkey mind:
    • When the brain is in that state of constantly racing thoughts (monkey mind), you cannot observe your inner state objectively.
    • By settling the breath and guiding your brainwaves into an “alpha” state, a clarity is born in which you can look at yourself objectively.
  • “Shifting your state of consciousness” through experience:
    • Knowledge and learning alone — understanding with your head — will not make those inner seeds disappear.
    • When you gain an actual “experience” through special meditative techniques or inner observation, there comes a moment when the stage of your consciousness leaps up dramatically (a shift of state).

5. The conditions for attracting the “key person” (the good connection) who changes your life

  • Good connections are not something you search for, but something you attract:
    • If you go looking for people while your inner state is out of order — full of fear and doubt — you will only attract masked, false connections and trouble.
    • Once your state of consciousness shifts and you can live naturally, in a relaxed sense of safety, you quietly come to know “this is the person” when they are in front of you, and you naturally become blessed with the real key people and the good connections that fundamentally change your life.

What lies between “cause” and “effect”

There is a phrase: cause and effect, karmic retribution.

“I did this, so this happened.”

There is a cause, and there is a result.
But life is not that simple.

Just because you planted a seed does not mean every seed will grow the same way.

There is soil, rain falls, the sun shines, and someone comes along to water it.

Only after meeting so many things does the seed finally sprout.

Between “cause” and “effect,” there is always “connection.”

Sometimes you work hard and the results simply do not come.

And conversely, a small step can lead to a future you never expected.

That gathering you happened to attend that day.

A conversation you exchanged without thinking much of it.

The one message you worked up the courage to send.

The person someone introduced you to.

Even if it made no sense at the time, looking back later you sometimes think,

“That was where everything began.”

So creating the “cause” matters.

Learn.
Move.
Speak to people.
Be kind to others.
Offer whatever you are able to offer.

But when, where, and in what form that action becomes an “effect” is not something you get to decide.

Because it is connection that carries it there.

That said, connection rarely comes to those who only wait for it.

You meet people out where you have moved to, and in the middle of relating to people, the next door opens.

And connection is not only about “people.”

It might be a single book.
It might be a landscape you saw while traveling.
It might be a failure, or a parting.

Something you hated at the time can end up saving the version of you that exists years later.

Even something that looks like a bad event may simply be an “effect” that has not arrived yet.

Life does not run on

cause → effect

but on

cause → connection → effect.

When you think of it that way, even the stretches of time where results do not come right away start to carry a slightly different meaning.

What you can do today is place a good “cause.”

And treat the connections you meet with care, never carelessly.

And don’t rush the results too much.

What connections today’s small action will meet, and what future it will become — nobody knows yet.

And that is exactly what makes life interesting.

Each guest speaker spoke on the theme of “connection”!

1. The law of connection in life — bad connections and good connections

· Seeking good connections is not enough on its own: no matter how much you wish for good encounters, unless you yourself are a person who gives good connections, you will never truly be blessed with them.

· The people around you are your mirror: what matters is whether you have become someone the people currently around you would call a “good connection.” Just as like attracts like, you have to start by changing the way you yourself are.

2. The mechanics of “curses” and “charms”

· Curses (negative energy):

  • Resenting people, envying them, begrudging them — or blaming yourself, cursing yourself with “I have no value,” “why is it always me” — wastes the energy you naturally possess.

  • The thoughts of women in particular, and the emotions of children (because they carry no sense of good or bad), are said to have an especially powerful influence.

· Charms (positive energy):

  • The root of the word omajinai (charm) is to place love and gratitude on your lips.

  • Not simply loving, but actually speaking words of “gratitude” toward the events and the presences of each day — that becomes a powerful force, a charm, that can overturn a negative situation.

3. Past wounds, empathy, and bonds

  • The various wounds and failures you take on in life never simply end as a negative.

  • The experience of having come through hardship, and the empathy between people who carry “the same wound,” is exactly what gives rise to deep bonds and good relationships.

4. Concrete habits that change your life

  • Keep the promises you make to yourself: cleaning the toilet, wearing bright clothes, getting up in the morning, opening the window and putting your hands together for your ancestors — quietly and steadily keeping the small habits you set for yourself is what matters.

  • Look at what you do have: rather than lamenting that you have no money or no breathing room, count and give thanks for what is in your hands right now, for the family and the people around you who support you, and the way you perceive reality changes.

  • Be gentle with yourself: instead of blaming yourself, rub your own body and say “pain, pain, fly away” — loving yourself and directing gratitude toward yourself is the first step to raising your stage.

5. Japanese culture, faith, and gratitude

  • Bon dances, festivals, memorial rites for ancestors and the like have been, since ancient times, the wisdom by which people confirmed their connections and kept facing forward even in the midst of hardship and sorrow — a culture of charms. We dance in a circle. En is the unit of money. En is also connection.

  • At the foundation of the world’s success philosophies and psychologies alike, “faith” and “gratitude” are commonly present, and holding a grateful heart is the basis of everything.

Mr. Yuki Kodera of the general publisher Subaru-sha.
An editor-in-chief who has produced a great many hits.

1. How bestsellers are born, and an editor’s art of planning

  • Making information-gathering a habit: as an editor, Kodera-san is constantly banking casual everyday conversations, sudden realizations and killer phrases in the notes app on his phone.
  • Matching a sense of the problem with the spirit of the times: rather than simply chasing trends, he captures the “sense of the problem” and the “spirit of the times” that many people today are carrying, and a project is born by multiplying that against an author and a theme that can solve or articulate it.
  • A dialogue-based editing style: rather than forcing things into a predetermined mold, he takes the approach of co-creating ideas from zero through dialogue with the author.

2. Scrapping a project entirely — the switch from 100 back to 0

  • Completely remaking a manuscript: at times, when he judges that the tone of an already-submitted manuscript (something written in an academic register, for example) does not fit the market, he will make the bold decision to rebuild the whole thing from a zero base — shifting it into a narrative style, for instance.
  • Resonance with the author: when the author’s “genius,” their “character,” and the “intense feeling” they want to convey all overlap, an unexpectedly large hit — a bestseller — is born.

3. What bestselling editors and authors have in common: “the way you live”

  • Differentiation through the way you live: in an era when “information” is easily obtained through AI and the internet, the value of information alone has already thinned out. The only element that differentiates you from others is “the way you live” itself.
  • Going through hell, and letting go: there was a period in his past when he chased numbers, broke down physically and mentally (he was hospitalized), and nearly collapsed under the pressure. From there he let go of “forcing himself and carrying everything,” and shifted to a stance of facing the author in front of him sincerely and making something genuinely good — and the results turned around again.

4. The shape of next-generation book-making, and what lies ahead

  • A direct connection with readers: he has avoided stepping out front until now, but he is coming to realize how interesting it is to deliver his voice directly through exchanges and events with readers.
  • What he wants to take on next: not book-making as mere work, but creative projects that transmit the author’s way of living and their heat directly — that is what he will keep pursuing.

My friends in Yamanashi were doing well too!

It really was a trip to Double 2!

There’s a person called DJ Aoi.

In their newsletter, they were discussing the difference between a hobby and work (being a pro).

At the hobby level, it’s a desire for self-satisfaction — the vector points back at yourself.

Once it becomes work, it’s about satisfying others, contributing to others — the vector points outward, toward other people. That was the argument.

I found myself nodding, completely struck by it.

DJ Aoi is wonderful!

From the self who was doing it as a hobby, for fun,

to “how do I get recognized?!”

and then

to “how do I make the person in front of me happy?!”

— unless you make that shift,

you end up in a painful place. That’s what it comes down to.
