Seriously, Tomabechi Theater was the best!
The excitement still hasn't worn off.
Like a first Noh theater experience or a first opera experience
More than understanding, an experience you bathe in...
Beyond feeling, soaking, letting it seep in
Non-verbal transmission The pleasure of non-comprehension
Beyond transformation, the realm of evolution
Sleeping through it, listening to it, understanding it, blanking out completely
Might've all had the same effect (lol)
What an incredible time! Thank you so much!
Hideto Tomabechi × Takumi Yamazaki
Balls come flying at you that go beyond comprehension,
and it's not your brain but your body that responds to them.

"To make your dreams ome true, decide on the goal first"
Step 1:Set the goal before the method
A common mistake is "only having dreams whose method you can see."
But a dream whose method you can see is only a dream within the range of your current self.
That's why life doesn't change.
→ Goal first, method later is fine.
Step 2:Self-image is creating reality
The brain isn't using all of itself.
It's only running on 3%.
And that 3% is selecting only information that fits your self-image of "I'm this kind of person."
Example: Decide on a trip to Italy, and suddenly information about Italy starts catching your eye. The brain hasn't changed — only the filter for what you see has.
→ Rewrite the self-image and the world you see changes.
Step 3: How to rewrite your self-image (5 ways)
- Have an outrageous dream — a dream that makes people think "no way"
- Change who you meet — the average of the 5 people you meet most becomes you
- Change the words you use — words create personality
- Live as if it's already come true — the brain starts gathering evidence
- Support people with the same dream — your own goal gets reinforced
Step 4: Set the goal "outside" the status quo
No matter how hard you push within the status quo, if the self-image doesn't shift, life doesn't change.
Set the goal "outside" your common sense — as much as a fish climbing onto land — and the self-image itself starts to move. → Even if you don't achieve it, life changes.
Step 5: Move on the White Engine
| Black Engine | White Engine | |
|---|---|---|
Reason for moving Fear, pride, appearances //Wanting to be of use to someone
Fuel duration Short // Long-lasting
Hold the axis of "for the world, for others," and you become able to move naturally.
Dr. Tomabechi's mathematical supplement
- Humans always try to return to their comfort zone — this can be proven mathematically
- That's why the goal has no meaning unless it's placed outside that zone
- "Vividness" = the higher your power to feel that goal as real, the more you get pulled toward it Time flows future → present → past (the future goal creates the present reality)
Summary
A dream isn't something you hold "to change the future" but "to change your current self."
Set the goal outside the status quo → self-image moves → the world you see changes → things automatically start moving in the direction of the dream coming true.
1. The goal has no meaning unless placed "outside the status quo"
The mathematical reason:
The human ego always tries to return to its "comfort zone (the range where it feels at ease)." This has been proven with equations. So if a goal sits inside the comfort zone, even when achieved, you snap back to where you were.
Example: Successfully losing weight but rebounding — this is the reason.
- The goal has no meaning unless placed "outside the status quo"
2. What is the Comfort Zone
It's like a band with an upper limit line and a lower limit line.
Lower line → the level of "any lower than this and I'll die / can't endure it"
Upper line → the level of "any higher than this and I'm uneasy / scared"
Humans have an instinct to stay in the middle of this band. This is the same mechanism as bodily homeostasis (blood sugar levels, etc.), and it works in the world of the mind too.
3. Vividness (realness) is what moves people
This is the core of Tomabechi theory.
Vividness = how real you can feel that goal
Humans are automatically pulled toward the world where vividness is high.
Introduced as an experimental example:
Showing yourself as "muscular" through VR goggles while training → what used to last only 50 seconds stretched to 80 seconds Conversely, shown as "skinny" → couldn't last past 30 seconds
Muscle strength hasn't changed. What changed is only the perception (vividness).
There's also the example of cows shown VR of "wide pastures" producing 5 more liters of milk per day. → Vividness works directly on the instinctive level.
4. Conditions for raising a goal's vividness
For a goal to function, the following are necessary:
Condition Explanation
Outside the status quo Has no meaning unless it's outside the comfort zone
Genuine to you A goal told to you by someone else won't raise vividness Settable If it's completely incomprehensible you can't hold vividness for it Self-consistent Doesn't contradict your own values
Efficacy (self-assessment of your own capability) also matters.
Without the feeling of "I can do this," no matter how high the vividness is, you can't move.
5. Unknowability (why you can't see it)
The explanation for why a goal outside the status quo can't be seen at first.
- The human brain only processes information that matches the self-image
- Outside the comfort zone is literally unrecognizable
- Things only visible from a high place — when you're in a low place, you don't even notice they exist
→ This is why Dr. Tomabechi says the coach's role is to set that "unseen goal" for you.
6. Multi-bridge (the exit to the outside)
Even if you can't directly see outside the status quo, by combining elements on the inside, you can get to the outside.
Example:
- With just one piece of information, you can't get out
- But when you combine multiple pieces of information, experiences, and viewpoints, a world that wasn't visible before comes into view
→ This is the meaning of learning with multiple people in coaching and seminars. Listening with a large group raises vividness and is more effective than listening alone.
7. Time flows "future →present→past"
This is the most distinctive part of Tomabechi theory.
The usual feeling: time flows past → present → future
Tomabechi theory: it flows future → present → past
What this means:
- The future goal becomes the "cause"
- And the current reality (present) is created
- Even memories of the past change with the present's interpretation
Even memories of the past change with the present's interpretation "You can't change the past" is wrong. When the present goal changes, the meaning and look of the past changes.
8. Application to the theory of evolution
Dr. Tomabechi criticizes Darwin's theory of evolution as "nothing more than optimization." Conventional theory of evolution: the individual best suited to the environment survives (selfish competition)
Tomabechi's theory of evolution:
- The higher the level of abstraction rises, the more stable it becomes
- Vividness and symbolic capacity (language, art, culture) are the keys to evolution
- Altruism (acting for others) is mathematically more stable over the long term
→ The claim: humanity having art, music, and culture is the correct direction of evolution, proven mathematically.
Summary
"A real future goal creates the current reality. So setting the goal outside the status quo, with vividness, is the starting point of everything."
When you understand the teacher's words, your understanding goes even further!

This part!
w1 → w2
When you combine x and y inside w1, you can get out into the world of w2.
That's what I want to know! Once the date is set I'll let you know!
