Creating a New Unknown.

AI predicts the future, algorithms optimize our actions, and social media neatly manicures our daily lives.

Behind the convenience of this era, the world is becoming increasingly predictable.

A daily life within the realm of the expected.

A society without hesitation. A future reached by avoiding failure.

But humans are, by nature, beings whose hearts race for the "unknown," whose souls are moved by the "unexpected," and who erupt with explosive power precisely when touching the "mysterious."

It is exactly because we live in such times that we want to believe in the power of mystery and deliver a story experience enjoyed with our entire heart and soul.

Without staying on a predetermined route, we will cross boundaries, shift forms, and give birth to experiences that do not yet have a name.

In a world of predictability, to reclaim excitement and possibility once more.

Creating a New Unknown. That is the mission of UNROUTE.

Come, let’s go on an adventure without a route.

Across The Universe

Across the Universe(アクロス・ザ・ユニバース)

Jai Guru Deva, Om

Jai Guru Deva, Om

Jai Guru Deva...

That story about "Across the Universe" is truly mind-blowing—The Beatles really were on another level.

Across the Universe

Words are flowing out like endless rain into a paper cup They slither wildly as they slip away across the universe Pools of sorrow, waves of joy are drifting through my opened mind Possessing and caressing me

Jai Guru Deva, Om (Victory to the Divine Teacher, Om) Nothing's gonna change my world Nothing's gonna change my world

Images of broken light which dance before me like a million eyes They call me on and on across the universe Thoughts meander like a restless wind inside a letter box They tumble blindly as they make their way across the universe

Jai Guru Deva, Om Nothing's gonna change my world Nothing's gonna change my world

Sounds of laughter, shades of life are ringing through my open ears Inciting and inviting me Limitless undying love which shines around me like a million suns It calls me on and on across the universe

Jai Guru Deva, Om Nothing's gonna change my world Nothing's gonna change my world Jai Guru Deva...

💡 Key Translation Points

  • Jai Guru Deva, Om: A Sanskrit mantra. "Jai" means victory, "Guru Deva" refers to the divine teacher, and "Om" is the primordial vibration of the universe.

  • Nothing's gonna change my world: Rather than a defiant "don't mess with me," this represents the "immovable peace of mind" attained through meditation.

  • Images of broken light: Like light passing through a prism—a fragmented, shimmering, and mystical landscape.

The Core Teaching of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi

"Reach inner infinite happiness without effort."

    ↓↓↓

He believed human suffering stems from being disconnected from the "infinite source within," and promoted Transcendental Meditation (TM) as a simple way for anyone to return there.

1. ”No Effort" is the Ultimate Key

While many forms of meditation require effort—such as "focusing," "clearing away stray thoughts," or "controlling your breath"—Maharishi taught that "the mind naturally tends to move inward in search of greater happiness, without any effort at all."

  • Natural Flow: Just as a river flows to the sea, the mind naturally sinks into deep silence when triggered by a "Mantra."

  • Accessible to All: He taught that if you have the ability to think a thought, you have the ability to meditate.

2. The State of "Transcendence"

Transcendence means passing through the finest stages of thought until the thought itself disappears, reaching a state of "Pure Consciousness."

  • The Heart's Cup: Like the "paper cup" or a "lake" in the lyrics—the surface may be wavy, but the bottom is always still. Experiencing this "still bottom" daily dissolves stress.

  • Bliss Consciousness: Our essence is "Bliss." Meditation is simply the act of remembering that essence.

3. The True Meaning of "Nothing's gonna change my world"

The phrase from the lyrics, “Nothing's gonna change my world,” perfectly symbolizes Maharishi’s teachings.

    • The Unshakable Heart: Once you establish "unwavering silence" within, external events can no longer toss you around.

    • Support of Nature: By aligning with the laws of the universe, things begin to move smoothly without forced effort.

Trivia: John Lennon and the Maharishi

When The Beatles stayed at Maharishi’s facility in Rishikesh, India, John was deeply moved by these teachings. However, there was also a period later on where, due to misunderstandings and disillusionment, he wrote songs criticizing Maharishi (such as "Sexy Sadie").

Even so, the sense of "cosmic silence and an inviolable inner world" embedded in "Across the Universe" can be described as the crystalized essence of the purest influence he received from Maharishi.

〜〜〜

Behind the birth of "Across the Universe" lies the drama of a period when The Beatles were at their most chaotic, yet also their most spiritually sharpened.

Here are three intriguing episodes surrounding this song:

1. It started with "annoyance towards his wife?"

The trigger for these cosmic lyrics was, surprisingly, an ordinary domestic quarrel.   One night, when his wife at the time, Cynthia, was talking on and on, John heard those words like "endless rain into a paper cup (words are flowing out like endless rain into a paper cup)" and became unable to sleep.   He went downstairs and wrote that phrase down, but as he continued writing, his anger was somehow sublimated into a "cosmic meditation." John himself later said, "This song has the best, most poetic lyrics I've ever written."

2. The India Retreat and Maharishi's Influence

In 1968, The Beatles headed to Rishikesh, India, to meet Maharishi.

  • Explosion of Creativity: As a result of devoting themselves to meditation in a quiet environment without even electricity, their creativity exploded. Most of the songs on The White Album were written during this period, and "Across the Universe" became a song that symbolized that state of mind.

  • Insertion of the Mantra: The "Jai Guru Deva, Om" in the lyrics is the direct incorporation of his reverence for Maharishi and the sensation of meditation he learned from him into the song.

3. Differences in "Speed" and "Bird Sounds" depending on the version

There are two famous versions of this song, and their atmospheres are completely different.

VersionCharacteristics
Past Masters Version (1969)Includes bird sounds at the beginning. Originally provided for a wildlife charity album, the tempo is slightly faster, and two female fans participated in the backing vocals.
Let It Be Version (1970)Included in the album Let It Be. Producer Phil Spector slowed down John's vocals and added an orchestra and choir to finish it as a grand ballad. This is the one generally known for the "cosmic" image.

John's "Salvation"

John cherished this song as "one of the few songs that works as poetry without a melody."   At a time when the balance of songwriting with Paul was starting to collapse and John was feeling lonely, meditation and this song may have been his salvation—a way to tell himself, "No matter what the outside world is like, there is an inviolable peace within me."
