The Scent of Bali.
The Time of Bali.
The Invitation of Bali.
When I was 24, 25,
I came to Bali—because everyone said, “It’s amazing.”
But I didn’t get it.
I wanted to understand.
I wanted to grasp even a thread of its charm.
I ran through markets,
wandered out to the beach, got chased by souvenir vendors,
and spent hours by the poolside.
Still,
I couldn’t feel it.
I couldn’t catch it.
But slowly—
I began to know.
The allure of this island.
The pull of this place.
And once you know,
it stays with you.
You can’t help but crave it.
A historic temple on the outskirts of Ubud.
Tirta Empul is a sacred temple known for its holy spring water.
I went without really understanding.
And then, I bathed in the water.
Men and women change in the same locker room,
and all become part of the green tribe.
It felt like my experience points suddenly leveled up all at once.
It reminded me of the swimming pool back in elementary school.
We took a short break, gazing out at the rice terraces,
then moved on to the next destination.
It’s my second time coming here.
But it’s my first Full Moon Ceremony.
Under his guidance, the ceremony unfolds.
A conversation with fire.
His invitation—he, from Mexico—
was like a song that guides people,
with the roots of plants as the pathfinders.
He lets out a wild cry and offers sacred words to the four directions.
Rain begins to fall,
and the mud beneath our feet feels like a rice planting field.
Earthing.
When it ends, next comes the sound healing.
Drawn in by Ganesha, I wander deeper and deeper within.
We bathed in a shower of sound.
At the sound healing sanctuary, Pyramids of Chi.
The pressure of the sound is intense—
it feels like I’ve stepped right into a movie soundtrack.
