after finishing up with my club activities, I stopped by a bookstore on my way home.
'I'm supposed to be invited tomorrow, right?' I thought, my memory hazy and thoughts clouded in a dreamy uncertainty, when I spotted this book on the shelf.

Shinji Okazaki's Soccer Life: A Journey of Challenges and Evolution (Summary)
Childhood and Passion for Football He started playing football in 2nd grade and was captivated by heading from an early age. Under strict coaching, he practiced over 100 headers every day, developing a mentality of "diving in without hesitation."
High School Challenges and Turning Point He enrolled at his local powerhouse, Takigawa Dai-ni High School, where the coach told him, "You may not be a regular." This motivated him even more. By the winter of his first year, he earned a starting spot. He met coach Hiroshi Arakawa, who had experience as an interpreter for the Argentina national team, and broadened his tactical vision, significantly changing his perspective on football.
Growth at Shimizu S-Pulse After graduating high school, he joined Shimizu S-Pulse. Initially rated as the 8th forward, his performance was underwhelming. However, after meeting veteran Yuki Sato, he learned how to receive crosses and make runs. In his third year, he scored his first professional goal and then started producing goals regularly. Eventually, he was named to the J-League Best Eleven.
Challenge and Rise in the Japan National Team In 2008, he was first selected for the national team. Just before his debut match, he experienced the unexpected event of being bitten by a dog. Through his experiences with the national team, he began to develop a sense of "responsibility to lead the team." In 2009, he scored 16 goals in the J-League, growing into one of Japan’s leading strikers.
Overseas Transfer and Glory in the Premier League Seeking further challenges, he moved to Europe. He played in the world’s top Premier League with Leicester City, where he achieved the miraculous feat of winning the league in the 2015-16 season. However, he also experienced personal disappointments, learning the harsh realities of competing at the global level.
New Challenges After Retirement After 20 years as a professional, he chose the path of becoming a coach. Through coaching at non-professional clubs, he reflects on the future of Japanese football. With a focus on "continuing to challenge" and "the power to be loved," he moves on to a new stage.
