One day, a mother—who was a teacher with only six months left to live—placed a glass of water on the table and spoke gently to her son.
When he asked,
“Why do I even have to study?”
she quietly replied:
"For example, if you study art,
you'll learn to capture the beauty of light reflected in this water with your own hands. If you study music,
you’ll develop your sensitivity through the way this glass resonates. If you study science,
you’ll understand what materials this glass is made from—and why it doesn’t leak.If you study ethics,
you’ll learn to treat things with care, and to feel empathy for others. If you study language,
you’ll be able to express your own thoughts—and understand the feelings of those around you.And if you study philosophy,
you’ll be able to reflect deeply on what this very conversation means.”
“But if you never study at all...
the water in this glass will always be just ‘water.’”
“That’s why we study.”

There are questions in life that don’t come with ready-made answers.
But maybe that’s the beauty of it—
When you think of children as little philosophers,
you realize… being asked these kinds of questions is a luxury of life.
After all,
when someone “argues” with you,
they’re really just inviting you into dialogue.
Handling objections is simply another form of Q&A.
The other day, I had an interview—
and I’ve taken some time to summarize it in my own way!

① Early Childhood Experiences & Value Formation
Top of the Class in the Countryside: In a small rural elementary school with just one class, being the fastest runner became the root of my self-esteem.
Memory of Poverty: I grew up in a poor household—my parents had just started a pearl farming business. When I invited friends over secretly, my mother was furious. That’s when I realized: she didn’t want others to see how poor we were.
Living Conditions: We borrowed baths from relatives. All five of us would ride on a small scooter—an iconic image of postwar poverty.
My Father’s Failure: In sixth grade, our home collapsed financially after my father was deceived by a business partner. Still, I saw that it was possible to keep smiling through hardship.
⸻
② Middle & High School: Awakening to Learning and Competition
Academic Struggles & Turning Point: I didn’t understand the meaning of the equal sign in math. But through remedial classes, I realized where I stood—and discovered the drive to learn.
Challenge of High School Entrance Exams: I aspired to study away from home.
Discovering Gratitude: Living in a dorm, eating meals prepared by others, made me appreciate my parents in a whole new way.
⸻
③ Discovering Track & Field and Inner Growth
National-Level Experience: I learned to handle pressure and channel prayer while competing in national tournaments.
Beyond Winning or Losing: My attitude became, “Please give me my next challenge.” That mindset carries into both life and business.
“God, I don’t need your help—just show me the next challenge.”
⸻
④ A Pivotal Moment: University, Career, and Amway
Accepted into Hiroshima University: A fortunate high score changed my course.
Turning Down an Athletic Scholarship: I disliked the feeling of being confined or “owned,” and chose a national university for the freedom it offered.
Encountering Amway: I met a senior I deeply respected and joined. I dove into the company’s system as if it were a “life school,” with Amway as the textbook.
⸻
⑤ Becoming an Entrepreneur & Going Global
Founded My Company ‘Taku Ltd.’ at 22
Broke an Amway World Record: The joy of being known across 100 countries.
The Words That Carried Me: “You could make it globally.” Words that supported me when I couldn’t in track and field.
⸻
⑥ Trials & Rebirth
Scandal and Isolation: I was made a scapegoat, and people drifted away.
Saved by a Friend’s Words:
“It’s not because you’re successful. I'm here cuz I just want to be around you.”
Never Speak Ill of Others: My philosophy—avoid creating karmic residue; deflect negativity with grace.
⸻
⑦ Post-Success Choices & Personal Aesthetics
Moved into an Ando Tadao-Designed Home in Kobe: Even at ¥550,000/month rent, I chose it “to go global.”
I left behind a newly built home next to my parents’—they didn’t understand and were angry.Learning the Joys of Travel, Drinking, and Style from close friends.
Venturing into Publishing, Art, and Food: The drive behind it all—“Life comes once, so I want to try everything.”
⸻
⑧ Social Contribution & Nurturing Talent
Offering Ideas to Young Entrepreneurs
Supporting Single Mothers and tackling societal challenges
Fostering Talents of Friends: Encouraging individuality with an environment where side hustles are welcome.
⸻
⑨ Thoughts on Organizations & Team Building
Are great people “found” or “raised”?
The ideals I had when I wanted to become a teacher are alive today:
The joy of raising “those kids who can’t sit still.”
⸻
⑩ Evolution of Self-Expression: Art, Publishing, Film
Illustrations featured in magazines like CanCam, even movie theater ads.
Solo exhibitions in New York, restaurant management
Publishing as a Bridge to Society: Even exploring novel writing.
⸻
⑪ The Theory of Hardship = Stage for Growth
Hardship as Weapon Upgrade Time: Like a video game, you gain new abilities and move to the next stage.
Debt, business failures in food—all of it became learning that now feeds my work and writing.
⸻
⑫ Vision for Seminars, Education, and Human Development
Running a Coaching School: Emphasizing the human quality of the coach.
Creating Peer Networks for Co-Learning: Designing systems where seminar participants work together.
⸻
⑬ Core Philosophy of Takumi Yamazaki
“Extraordinary things happen effortlessly”: Keep believing and keep challenging, together with others.
“Don’t shut yourself in—open yourself to the world”: Stay connected, don’t isolate.
“It’s not about becoming through effort—it’s about acting /living/being as who you already are”: Align thought and action to create your future.
