1)Why do humans aggravate suffering? 

 

Humans are born with a negativity bias

  ↓↓↓

 Being negative is not acquired 

      It's congeital

 It is the human default. 

  We are more affected by negative information 

  and negative information sticks with us for longer 


It's called the negativity bias. 

 

 Positive information doesn't last long

Positive emotions are fleeting 

 =Psychologists call it the "pleasure treadmill"! 

    Those who won a massive lottery→That happiness doesn't last 

    Even the joys of falling in love last only 3 years 



Why do humans 

  remember negative information better? 

 ↓↓↓

 Predators/Hunger/Infectious diseases/violence 

 By being timid and sensitive to negative information, we were able to protect ourselves from these dangers 

 

Now that the world is much more safe 

Fear/alarm system is malfunctioning 

 

 The truth only spreads to 1000 people 

   Disinformation and fear transmits to over 100,000 people 


 

Developed countries 

Wealthy 

Young people 

 ↓↓↓

Depression and perfectionism

 

 How to get rid of stress 

   How to increase levels of happiness


 

 Suffering is our default setting 

 Experiment with chimps 

  

 Could no longer move →Pain in the body/Hunger 


What was different from humans?! 

 Mammals do not suffer 

 Humans are the only ones that continue to suffer 

   Animals don't develop mental illness 



Suffering communicates "lack" 

 

 Anger=Informs you that important boundaries have been crossed 

 Fear=Informs you that danger is near 

 Anxiety= Informs you that something bad is nearing

 As we went for one person to a group, these emotions increased 


 

 Humans who aggravate suffering 

 ↓↓↓

 Whether the second arrow sticks?!

 Receives the first cause of suffering=first arrow

 Humans experience the second arrow 


Half body paralyzed→Chimpanzee   it was tough! 

   Humans ask "Why did this happen to me?・・・

 This is the second arrow! 

   Then the 3rd and 4th arrow comes! 

   Suffering brings more suffering! 

 Rumination!!!

 The negativity continues around and around in circles 

 

 Don't release the 2nd arrow!!!

 The first arrow    The threat doesn't seem to last long. 

   A few minutes later, the frontal lobe stops it the emotions

   A few more minutes later it goes back to normal 


 

About desires 

  Move your focus away from what is right in front of you 

  Allow things to end with the first arrow. 

  Don't release the second arrow! 


In order to survive, 

we have had this initial setting 

So when negativity comes, 

escape to the game! 

 

 

2)What is self?

 

Vividly remember past negative experiences

We have survived with the ability to predict future threats 


↓↓↓

We have evolved overwhelmingly! 


The negativity that was useful for us in the primitive era 

is now causing mental illness and is shortening our lives. 


The self is 

what brings you the sense of 

(I am me) 

no matter where you are 

or on what time axis you are. 

It reminds you that "I am a consistent being" 


I am me

This creates suffering 

 

You felt negativity 

If left attended it will go too far 

↓↓↓

Why?!

That's not me!

What will happen to me?

Thoughts focused on self=Focusing on self 

 

"I am a useless human being" 

"What kind of a human am I?" 

"Who am I really?" 

These self-focused thoughts can easily break down your mental state 


I did well 

I did my best

Things related to self are set to be negative 

That's the initial setting =second arrow 


The cause of suffering 

The self gets involved 

Let go of the past and the future and live in the present moment! 


If you could erase your self?! 

 

The self is

Not an absolute sensation that resides inside of you 

Nor is it a superior existence that controls your emotion

It is just a specific collection of functions

EMOTIONS

Ability to send you the messages you need to survive 



I am me

The self chooses from  ・・・

 

1)Your life memory 

2)Personality summary (I am a 〇〇 human) 

3)Understanding emotions (I am feeling like this) 

4)Factual knowledge (I am Japanese) 

5)Continued experiences (is connected to the past) 

6)Execution and ownership (I own my body, my actions and my thoughts!) 

7)Inner scrutiny(Analyze and shift to new thoughts and actions)

The ones that are thought to solve the problem are selected! 


The self is 

from a brain's point of view "a survival tool"! 

It's thought that there is only one "I"

but that is not the case!!!

 

In fact, "I" does not exist! 


You have had experiences with no self 

When you are fully immersed and absorbed in something 

When you are reading a novel 

When you are having fun with your friends 


You should be no sense of self

Peace 

No suffering 

Here and now 


You will still exist even though self disappears 

Will things go better when the self isn't involved?! 

 

3)The world is fictional 

 

Achieving a state of no self 


Our brains are organs for creating stories 

 

1)The brain creates a story about how the surrounding situation develops 

 

2)The brain compares the video and audio received by the sensory organs, and compares the information with the story created by the brain. 

 

3 It creates "reality" only by modifying where the story in the brain was wrong.

"Most of reality" that we perceive is a "simulation of the world" composed of stories created by the brain! 

 

Rather than experiencing reality as it is

The brain is a simulation created by the brain 

We are experiencing the story created by the brain 


Once we see it, 

the story begins and 

we think it is reality.
