┌★.1 Business men who set out on a wandering journey after reaching the peak
└──
There is a man named Barry Diller.
He is the chairman of IAC, a leading media and internet company
that is 20 billion market cap.
During his business life, he was always shining.
He dropped out of university,
and joined an entertainment agency. At age 32 he became chairman/CEO of Paramount pictures.
The movie he created while there was "The Bad News Bears!"
A monumental sports drama and well loved in Japan as well.
The production cost was 9 million dollars and
while the reputation of the previous reputation was bad,
he created it into a masterpiece of 32 million dollars!
After that he moved to 20th Century Fox.
Launches the social satire animation "the Simpsons"
He was truly at the peak of success.
However, during that time,
he suddenly announced that he decided to
leave the company and go on a wandering journey.
In 1992, he was 50 years old.
He had 1 reason for this
"Because my curiosity is waning"
However, from her his where Barry's legend begins.
┌★.2 The goddess of happiness smiles
on the courage to follow "curiosity"
└──Eventually, he hears from his wife who is a designer,
that huge amounts of her scarfs sold on "QVC"
a channel solely dedicated to TV shopping.
It came as a shock to Barry
who only knew of video media as entertainment.
Barry paid 25 million dollars to acquire the business ownership rights of QVC.
However, in 1994, Barry lets go of the management rights of QVC too.
He saw the huge tide that was soon to come.
The "internet".
He found out about "matching sites" from his son,
and foresaw that "there will come an age where people will meet their dating partners online."
He invested in Match.com which was one of the businesses in Dallas,
and grew it into a now worth 17 billion dollar enterprise "Match group"
Furthermore, he also foresaw online booking for travel without using agencies.
In 2001 he bought the controlling stake of Expedia from Microsoft.
However, right after the the contract was completed, a massive incident happens.
The "9.11 terrorist attack"
However, Barry still didn't hesitate to sign.
-----------
"As long as humans living, they will always journey"
-----------
As a result, Expedia is not a 200 billion dollar enterprise.
Co-founder David Geffen from the QVC days spoke of Barry,
∴‥∵‥∴‥∵‥∴
"Barry always has a plan.
I have only ever seen him succeed."
∴‥∵‥∴‥∵‥∴
Why did the goddess of happiness
smile upon Barry.
And continues to smile upon him?
That's because he values his "curiosity"
and has refused to rest on his laurels.
Each person meets the goddess of happiness every day.
But because they don't have the courage
to prioritize that "curiosity"
she cannot smile upon them.
Especially during this time
when our every day lives are obviously disturbed
it's your "curiosity" that will be
an unwavering guide.
Thank you for reading.
