Yesterday was Shinnen-sai (新嘗祭), a very important day for the Japanese.

Shinnen-sai is a festival to express gratitude for the harvest, offering new rice to the gods and praying for a bountiful harvest the following year. It is held every year on November 23rd at the Imperial Palace and shrines across the country. At the Imperial Palace, the Emperor personally offers and consumes the newly harvested rice.

The "Shin" (新) in Shinnen-sai refers to "new grains," while "Name" (嘗) means "to eat." This festival is a way to thank the gods, including Amaterasu-ōmikami, for their blessings in providing the new grains.

The origins of Shinnen-sai go back a long way, with the Kojiki mentioning that Amaterasu-ōmikami held this festival. It is also said that there are poems in the Manyōshū indicating that women used to hold this festival exclusively.

Shinnen-sai complements the Kinen-sai (祈年祭) held on February 17th, which is a prayer for abundant crops. The name Shinnen-sai was changed to "Labor Thanksgiving Day" (勤労感謝の日) in 1948, after World War II. This change occurred as the GHQ separated the Imperial Palace’s ceremonies from the national holiday in its post-war policies.

Two Equations That Will Boost Your Sales!

Sales = Market × Skills × Effective Meetings

↓↓↓

The market, or your prospects, are in your thoughts.

Effective Meetings Count
↓↓↓
Prospects are those who have been approached at least once,
acknowledged the appeal of your product,
and are individuals or organizations with the ability to pay.

Anything outside of that is not part of your list.

If you're not able to communicate with anyone other than prospects,
don't waste time worrying about it.

I’ve also articulated how to turn your list into prospects.

Find your reason to strive.
The company’s philosophy,
The company’s vision,
The reason the company exists—
expand that desire beyond the CEO!

What is a prospect list?

Explanation of the 4 classifications and creation process|

Based on BeMARKE, this article explains the importance of a prospect list in B2B marketing, as well as how to create and manage it.

Definition and Importance of a Prospect List

A prospect list is defined as "a list that visualizes the contact status with potential customers and uses that information to enhance sales and marketing activities."

This list is an essential tool for efficiently managing potential customers who may become clients in the future, and for carrying out appropriate sales and marketing activities.

4 Stages of Prospect Classification

Prospects are classified into four stages based on their level of purchase intent. Different approaches are required for each stage:

  1. Immediate Customers: Those with both high needs and wants, making them the most likely to become customers. A quick approach, such as offering exclusive benefits or trials, is essential.

  2. Troubled Customers: Those with high needs but low wants. It’s necessary to provide information comparing the pros and cons of the product or service and how it stacks up against competitors to increase their purchase intent.

  3. Potential Customers: Those with high wants but low needs. The focus should be on increasing their interest and providing information that helps them realize the necessity of the product.

  4. Distant Customers: Those with both low needs and wants. Continuous information sharing is necessary to raise awareness of the product or service and improve its recognition.
