Last night I had dinner in Kasumigaseki.
The food was wonderful, though the prices were quite remarkable.

but then again, going back to Japan from here is just as shocking.

It reminds me of when I first moved from the countryside to Tokyo.
I was stunned by Tokyo prices.
An ordinary office worker living in a one-room apartment with rent of about 100,000 yen—
back home, that money could build you a house.

And yet, before I knew it, I had gotten used to Tokyo’s prices.

and I spent three of them in Fukuyama City.
Located on the eastern edge of Hiroshima Prefecture,

A message just came in from Donia in Paris!
Of all the Parisians I met during my three years there,
Donia was probably the one who looked after me the most.
Thank you for all the wonderful times in Paris!
Fun fact—she was once France’s representative in cosplay.
Back then, the world event was held in Nagoya,
and it was through friends in Nagoya that I got introduced to Donia.
And then there’s the Paris “Galette.”
When a little charm comes out from inside,
it’s the tradition of “Galette des Rois” in France.
Family and friends cut the cake into slices,
and whoever finds the fève hidden inside becomes the “king” or “queen” of the day.
But somehow my daughter never seemed to get it.
So every day we would buy another galette,
cutting into it with excitement, hearts pounding.
